Animation Planet is a regionally organized film festival with the mission to create a shared platform to showcase animated films made by local animators of all animation mediums and experience levels. The festival's intention is to provide an accessible opportunity for animators to expose their work to the public and to build upon Northern New England’s community of animation creators and appreciators. 

The inaugural festival was held in Portland, Maine in September 2023 at Congress Square Park. Shadow puppets and flip books were made before the audience settled down to watch the screening unfold under the stars.

Founded by Maine based artists Josie Colt and Shawn Brewer, Animation Planet grew out of the desire to build and grow a community of creators and appreciators of the animation medium. Exploring the styles, craft, and methodology of other makers helps others grow and influence each others practice. The film festival is a way to celebrate and acknowledge the latent magic and wonder of animation and the creatives behind it.
