What is Animation Planet? 

Animation Planet is a regionally organized film festival with the mission to create a shared platform to showcase animated films made by local animators of all animation mediums and experience levels. The festival's intention is to provide an accessible opportunity for animators to expose their work to the public and to build upon Northern New England’s community of animation creators and appreciators. 

Who can submit? 

Submissions are open to all regardless of skill level but will be juried by event organizers for content, length, and relevancy to the medium of animation. Creators may apply with more than one project or film however the selection for screening of multiple pieces by the same creator is up to the discretion of the jurors.

All submissions will be made through our submitable platform, slated to launch in APRIL 2024. Acceptance emails will be sent in June, with the event occurring in mid-late September. link to submission page.

At this time, submissions are open only to residents of Maine, New Hampshire, and Vermont.

What kind of workshops and demos are there?

Workshops and demos are, as of yet, unannounced. We are currently accepting proposals by artists for Demos and Workshops. A stipend will be provided for all presenting artists. Reach out at animationplanetfest@gmail.com if you are interested.

I heard there are cash prizes for some films? What does this mean for me AND MY FILM?

For 2024 we are offering excellence awards - a cash stipend that is awarded to select film makers who’ve submitted and are accepted to this years film festival. The awards are based on merit and juried by local Maine artists and filmmakers. This year we will be offering 5 awards at the value of $300 each! These will be dispersed in the Fall of 2024.

When and where is the event? 

The 2024 festival season will be in mid to late september hosted in Portland, Maine. Screening and Workshop venue TBA!

Who can attend the event? 

This is an all ages event, however some content may not be suitable for everyone. Children and adolescents under 13 must be accompanied by an adult. Dogs and cats TBA.

How much does the event cost?

Ticket sales will be launched in July of 2024.

$10 adv/ $15 at door. Submitting artists get 1 free ticket. This is an all ages event. A number of tickets will be set aside for BIPOC folks and anyone with financial hardships. contact animationplanetfest@gmail.com for more info
